Software/Controls Engineer
Position Purpose:
We are looking for a developer to join our internal software group which develops and maintains custom, machine control applications that are used in all areas of business operations. We primarily develop with the Microsoft Stack (.NET framework, C#, SQL Server) so the ideal candidate would be comfortable with these technologies. Our internal business systems uses a web based system, originally developed in classic ASP and VB script and is in the process of a rewrite in ASP.Net, C# and JavaScript by our software development team. This position will grow to have broad responsibilities for implementing complete system solutions involving a variety of hardware components, control system integration, database and reporting systems.
Principal Duties:
The following are the principal duties of the Software/Controls Engineer:
- Developing and deploying PC based applications in an object oriented development environment to control the functionality of fully automated and semi-automatic industrial and lab machines. (Primarily C#, and SQL)
- Routinely interfacing with customers and co-workers as part of a design, development, run-off, training, and delivery cycle of our custom test systems
- Taking ownership, training and supporting customer’s equipment to ensure success
- Maintaining, updating and supporting internal VTI business systems developed in classic asp
- Upgrading internal business systems using ASP.Net and JavaScript
- Actively participating within a dynamic small group environment, with an ability to work both independently and on the team
- Strong troubleshooting capabilities
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM-related discipline or related experience
- Technical mindset with great attention to detail and high quality organizational skills
- Communication, documentation and presentation abilities
- Mechanically inclined - hands-on experience with machines/industrial equipment is preferred
- A basic functional knowledge of electronics
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with internal and external customers
- Availability to travel 20% of time (primarily within North America and possibly some international travel)
- Experience in software development in various languages
- Familiarity with web development, HTML, CSS, ASP.Net and JavaScript and related design frameworks
- Experience with SQL Query language, relational databases and Microsoft SQL Server environments
- Oracle experience, deploying software into a production environment and working with web API’s are all a plus
- Experience with Allen Bradley, Automation Direct, or equivalent PLC and HMI development are desired
